This application was written for a company that tests and certifies metal used to manufacture airplanes. The primary motivation for this application may seem surprising – documentation. This company like any other needs a complete accounts receivable.  It needs to issue purchase orders. And because the app is a complete management package, all the other frills any company needs. But this is where the similarity ends.

Their biggest expense was from audits, both scheduled as well as unscheduled.  On any given day, any prime or agency such as Boeing, Bell Helicopter, the FAA, NADCAP, etc. may come in unannounced and ask for documentation on tests performed say 2 years ago or 6 weeks ago. And they may ask where the order came from (a 3rd party subcontractor like Dallas Landing Gears,) the last time that company had been audited, and what company performed the audit. And they may ask what tests were performed, who performed the tests, and the equipment used in the testing. And they may want to know everything about the employee who did the testing, from the last time they had their eyes checked to the last time they were certified in every area they test for, and who certified them. And they may want to know the last time the equipment was certified and calibrated, who performed same, and the last time that company was certified and who certified them. And then there are the scheduled audits, which can last 3 or 4 days.

Now while all documentation must have a paper copy maintained in regular filing cabinets, pulling everything and organizing it while the auditor is watching may require several employees who are very familiar with the storage system. And it is both disruptive and time consuming, and renders no revenue. If the company can not produce satisfactory documentation, they are in jeopardy of losing their own certification, and thus their ability to continue in business. But they also can not spend all their time preparing for audits, if they are going to produce revenue!

CCP converted them from a DOS system about 7 years ago to a Windows system. And with the current system, any of these questions can be answered in seconds, and produce reports for same, including the location of the paper copies, as in Row 7, Cabinet A, Drawer 3.

There are separate modules for Training, Equipment, Testing, etc. This is a very large app, with over 500 tables, 400 screens and 225 reports.

As orders are received, they are printed to a “Traveler” with a separate copy for each respective department, and includes a barcode. And everywhere the order travels, the employee scans it in and out with a barcode reader. This really speeds things up. Many other operations are auto handled by barcode readers, as shipping and receiving.

It goes beyond the scope of this brief description to show you much, but will include a few screen shots.
